Fertilizer for my soul!

This was another weekend with a Smörgåsbord of "Simple Pleasures" to enjoy. I spent the weekend with my girlfriend at her lake front summer home in Port Stanley www.portstanley.ca/, a quaint little town on the north shore of Lake Erie.  After chatting in the car during the 2 1/2 hour drive from Toronto, we continued our conversation on the screened in porch with a cool gentle lake breeze flowing through.   We could hear the sound of the waves hitting the shore, about 50 feet in front of us.  We moved inside when the blankets covering us no longer provided enough warmth.  I was completely surprised when I realized that it was 3.45 a.m and we had been chatting non-stop for 8 hours.  Wow, talk about verbal diarrhea!  We never seem to run out of conversational topics.

By the end of the weekend, our marathon talking sessions added up to 33 hours, and we had touched upon every subject imaginable.  It's like fertilizer for my soul and a free shrink, all in one session.
We also managed to take a stroll through quaint Port Stanley to browse some of the shops and I got lucky when I found a cute little hot chocolate jug that my daughter has wished for.  Bonus!   Port Stanley has many choices of restaurants and we settled on having dinner on the outdoor patio at Mickey's Boathouse.  It turned out to be an excellent choice.  I enjoyed a delicious seafood chowder and caesar salad, while listening to Murray Andrew,myspace.com/murrayandrew, a fabulous solo acoustic guitar player/singer, performing that night; it was thoroughly enjoyable.

The following day, we enjoyed the famous Ale and Cheddar soup at  Me & Suzie's restaurant.  This soup is absolutely to "die for" and if I didn't have such good table manners, I would have licked the bowl.  But keep in mind; you do NOT want to know the fat or calorie count in this soup!

It was a perfect weekend, other than when I was lying in bed and heard a noise downstairs, as if something fell on the floor. My girlfriend had also gone to bed, so I knew it wasn't her.  I immediately turned on the light, listened carefully and with my eyes wide open lay still in bed.  My imagination was working overtime. Like I said; a Victorian home on the lake is like made for a movie.  I just don't want to star in it.....

I will savor this weekend for quite some time.
